Black and White with Color
Like many photographers, I like the look of black and white photography, but I also like an updated twist on the black and white photo. For a more dramatic effect, try a black and white photo with one color added. (See the photo below)
This effect is simple to do. Open the photo is Photoshop. Then use the Select Color Range function. This is found under Select, Color Range. You use the eye dropper to select your color range. Then you can use the quick mask function to refine my selection. After you have the selection that you like, you copy that to a new layer.
Now convert the photo to black and white. I like the new black and white layer function found in Photoshop CS3. This layer needs to be between the original photo and the copy of the color range selection that you created. So the layer stack should be the original photo, then the black and white layer and top layer is your color section. You should now have a black and white photo with one color.
